Wisdom teeth trouble? Book your free consultation with Dr. Richard in the Harley Street district.

At Dr. Richard Clinics London, near Harley Street in London W1, Dr. Richard Marques BDS is an expert at treating all types of wisdom tooth pain.

Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?

Wisdom teeth usually develop in teenagers and young adults. They grow right at the back of your mouth, one in each corner – four in total.

By the time your wisdom teeth start developing all other adult teeth should be in place. Sometimes there’s just not enough room inside the mouth for four new teeth to make their home there. This means the wisdom teeth can’t grow properly, so they might emerge at an angle or get stuck and only partially emerge. This is known as ‘impacted wisdom teeth’.

Not all impacted wisdom teeth cause pain. If they’re not causing you any bother, you don’t need to get them removed. Keep up your teeth cleaning routine and pay extra attention to those awkward angles that can trap food.

When wisdom teeth go bad…

Like all teeth, wisdom teeth can trap food and bacteria – and impacted wisdom teeth may be more susceptible, as they can be more difficult to clean properly.

Food and bacteria which isn’t removed causes a buildup of plaque and can lead to:

• Gum disease
• Tooth decay
• Soft tissue infections
• Abscesses
• Cysts

If you’re experiencing any of these, or other problems with a wisdom tooth, call Dr.Richard Clinics London for your free wisdom tooth assessment*

*(Please note, there is a charge for emergency/ pain relief wisdom tooth appointments).

If necessary, we can refer you to hospital – privately or on the NHS. There is a small admin fee for referrals.

Anaesthetic for wisdom tooth removal

Woman with a tooth pain

Before having your wisdom tooth removed, you’ll be given an injection of local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and the surrounding area. Wisdom tooth removal is one of the most common procedures and can usually be completed within a few minutes.

After the procedure, Richard will give you full details of how to care for your mouth to help it heal.

Wisdom tooth treatments for nervous patients

Dr Richard Marques BDS is well-known for his gentle and ethical approach to working with nervous patients. If you’re particularly anxious about having a wisdom tooth removed, we can offer full IV sedation by an anaesthetist. You’ll feel relaxed and sleepy for a short time whilst Richard carries out the tooth extraction.

If IV sedation isn’t for you, we also have a selection of relaxing music to help take your mind off things. Either way, Richard will always make sure you feel as comfortable as possible.
